Patient Information
Welcome to Boudica Physio
We’re delighted you’ve chosen Boudica Physio.
Whether you’re attending for musculoskeletal physiotherapy, women’s health physiotherapy, scar
therapy or a Mummy MOT®, our aim is to provide evidence-based, compassionate care in a safe,
professional and welcoming environment.
We know that attending physiotherapy can sometimes feel daunting, particularly if it’s your first
appointment or you’re seeking help for a sensitive issue. We hope the information below helps you feel
prepared and reassured before your visit.
Before Your Appointment
Please arrive a few minutes before your appointment time if possible.
If this is your first appointment, you may be asked to complete a short questionnaire before you attend.
This helps us understand your symptoms and make the best use of your appointment time.
If you need to cancel or rearrange your appointment, please give us at least 24 hours’ notice. Full details can be found in our Terms & Conditions.
What to Wear
Please wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily.
For musculoskeletal appointments, shorts or loose-fitting clothing can be helpful depending on the
area being assessed.
For women’s health appointments, there is no need to wear anything special. Please remain fully clothed until your physiotherapist has explained the assessment and advised if any clothing needs to be removed.
Only the area necessary for assessment or treatment will ever be exposed, and your privacy and dignity will always be respected.
Your First Appointment
Your appointment will begin with a detailed conversation about your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle and goals.
Your physiotherapist will then carry out an assessment relevant to your condition and discuss their findings with you.
Together, you will agree on a personalised treatment plan based on your goals and the latest clinical evidence.
Nothing will happen without discussion first, and you are encouraged to ask questions throughout your appointment.
Consent
Your consent is central to everything we do.
Any examination or treatment will always be explained beforehand and will only take place with your informed consent.
You may decline or stop any examination or treatment at any time.
Women's Health Appointments
Women’s health physiotherapy appointments are tailored to your individual concerns and may include assessment and treatment for:
- Pelvic floor dysfunction
- Bladder symptoms
- Bowel symptoms
- Pelvic pain
- Pregnancy-related conditions
- Postnatal recovery
- Prolapse
- Diastasis Recti
- Menopause-related concerns
- Pain during intercourse
If your physiotherapist feels that a pelvic floor examination would provide valuable clinical information, this will always be discussed with you beforehand.
A pelvic floor examination is entirely optional and will only be undertaken with your explicit consent.
Choosing not to have an internal examination will never affect your right to receive physiotherapy advice and treatment.
Scar Therapy
Scar therapy may be appropriate following surgery, birth injuries or trauma.
Treatment may include gentle hands-on techniques, movement, education and, where clinically appropriate, specialist scar therapy techniques such as LymphaTouch®.
Not every scar requires treatment, and your physiotherapist will explain whether scar therapy is likely to benefit your individual presentation.
Together, we will agree on the most appropriate approach for your goals.
Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy
Our musculoskeletal physiotherapy service helps people experiencing pain or injury affecting muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments and nerves.
Your assessment may include:
- Movement assessment
- Strength testing
- Functional testing
- Joint assessment
- Discussion of lifestyle and activity goals
Treatment may include:
- Education
- Exercise rehabilitation
- Manual therapy
- Self-management strategies
- Advice on returning to work, sport or everyday activities
Chaperones
Your comfort is important to us.
You are welcome to bring a family member, friend or support person to any appointment.
If you would prefer a clinic chaperone, please contact us before your appointment where possible so we can discuss the options available.
Bringing Your Baby
Babies are always welcome at Boudica Physio.
We understand that arranging childcare isn’t always possible and we’re happy to welcome your little one to your appointment.
Where possible, we recommend bringing another adult with you to help care for your baby if your assessment or treatment requires your full attention.
Privacy & Dignity
We are committed to providing care that is respectful, professional and centred around you.
Your privacy will always be protected.
Only the area required for assessment or treatment will be exposed and appropriate draping will be used whenever necessary.
