Advanced Light Therapy to Support Your Recovery

At Boudica Physio, we believe in combining expert physiotherapy with evidence-informed treatment options to help optimise your recovery.

As part of your physiotherapy treatment, your physiotherapist may recommend Photobiomodulation (PBM), also known as Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) or laser therapy, where it is clinically appropriate.

We use the Avant dual-wavelength laser, which combines red light and near infrared light. These wavelengths penetrate to different tissue depths and may support healing, reduce pain and help optimise tissue recovery alongside your personalised rehabilitation programme.

Laser therapy is not a standalone treatment and is never a substitute for a thorough assessment, education, exercise rehabilitation or hands-on physiotherapy. Instead, it may be incorporated into your appointment where your physiotherapist feels it is likely to provide additional benefit.

Photobiomodulation uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate natural cellular processes.
Research suggests that this may help to:
Red light is typically used for more superficial tissues, while near infrared light can penetrate more deeply into muscles, tendons and joints.

Is laser therapy suitable for everyone?

Your physiotherapist will complete a full assessment and discuss any precautions or contraindications before recommending treatment.

If laser therapy is not appropriate for you, your physiotherapist will discuss alternative treatment options.

Our approach at Boudica Physio

At Boudica Physio, we do not believe there is one treatment that works for everyone.
Every treatment plan is tailored to the individual and may include a combination of:
Our aim is always to provide the right treatment, at the right time, based on your individual needs and the best available evidence.

Working with trusted local colleagues

We believe in collaborative care.
Where another specialist treatment may benefit your recovery, we will discuss this with you and, with your agreement, refer you to trusted local healthcare professionals.
For example, if Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is considered appropriate following your assessment, we can refer you to our colleagues at PhysioResolutions, where this treatment is available.
