Pelvic Pain & Vaginismus Physiotherapy in Norwich
Gentle, specialist pelvic health physiotherapy — at your pace
Pelvic pain can affect far more than just your pelvis.
It can affect sex and intimacy, exercise, sitting, using tampons, having a smear test or medical examination — and even how safe and confident you feel in your own body.
Perhaps you’ve been diagnosed with vaginismus. Maybe penetration is painful or feels impossible. Or perhaps you’ve been living with pelvic pain for some time and you’re frustrated, worried or simply don’t know what to do next.
At Boudica Physio in Norwich, we provide specialist physiotherapy for women experiencing pelvic pain, vaginismus and painful penetration.
Our approach is gentle, individual and led by you.
We combine specialist pelvic-health physiotherapy with myofascial techniques, movement, pelvic-floor rehabilitation, education and nervous-system regulation to help you understand your body and gradually work towards the things that matter to you.
Not sure if we’re right for you?
Available online or in person.
Does this sound familiar?
You may be looking for help because you want to:
- Have sex or experience penetration more comfortably
- Use a tampon
- Feel more comfortable having a smear test or pelvic examination
- Reduce pelvic pain or discomfort
- Return to exercise or everyday activities with more confidence
- Understand and relax your pelvic floor
- Feel less fearful of pain or penetration
- Feel safer and more confident in your body again
Whatever your goal, we’ll start with what matters to you.
You will always be in control
We understand that seeing a pelvic-health physiotherapist can feel daunting, particularly if you’re already experiencing pain or you’re worried about an examination.
So let’s make something very clear:
- You do not have to have an internal examination or internal treatment.
- Your first appointment isn't something you need to “get through”.
- We start by listening to your story, understanding your symptoms and finding out what you would like to be able to do again.
- Treatment begins gently and progresses at your pace.
- An internal pelvic-floor assessment or internal treatment is only introduced if it is appropriate, and only when you feel safe, comfortable and confident to proceed.
- Nothing happens without your consent.
What happens at your first appointment?
Your initial pelvic pain or vaginismus assessment is 60 minutes and costs £110.
1. We listen
We’ll talk about your symptoms, how long they’ve been happening, what you’ve already tried and how they’re affecting your life.
We’ll also talk about what you would like to change.
2. We assess
We’ll consider your movement, breathing, pelvic floor and other factors that may be contributing to your symptoms.
There is no expectation that this needs to include an internal examination.
3. We begin treatment gently
Treatment starts during your first appointment and is tailored to you.
This may include nervous-system regulation, breathing, movement, education, external myofascial release or other gentle hands-on techniques.
4. We make a plan together
You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of what may be contributing to your symptoms and what we can begin working on together.
Our approach to pelvic pain & vaginismus
Pelvic pain and vaginismus aren’t always as simple as finding a tight muscle and releasing it.
When your body has experienced pain, fear or repeated discomfort, it can become protective.
That’s why helping you feel safe and supporting nervous-system regulation are central to our approach.
Depending on your individual needs, treatment may include:
- Nervous-system regulation techniques
- Breathing and pelvic-floor relaxation
- Myofascial and hands-on release techniques
- Movement and mobility
- Pelvic-floor rehabilitation
- Individual exercises
- Self-release techniques
- Gradual exposure to activities you've been avoiding
- Advice around comfortable penetration
- Dilators where appropriate
- Pelvic wands or other appropriate self-treatment tools
If internal pelvic-floor treatment becomes useful, we’ll explain what we’re suggesting and why.
We’ll only introduce it with your consent and when you feel ready.
Vaginismus & painful penetration
Vaginismus can make penetration painful, extremely difficult or sometimes feel impossible.
It may affect sex, tampon use, smear tests or other medical examinations.
Repeated painful or unsuccessful experiences can understandably make you anxious about trying again — and that can leave you feeling as though you’re stuck in a cycle.
We won’t rush you.
We’ll help you understand what’s happening within your body and pelvic floor and gradually work towards your individual goals.
Treatment may include nervous-system regulation, breathing, pelvic-floor relaxation, movement, myofascial techniques and gradual exposure.
Where appropriate, we may also teach you how to use dilators, pelvic wands or self-release techniques so you can develop confidence working with your own body.
The aim isn’t to force or rush your body.
It’s to help you develop greater comfort, confidence and control at a pace that feels manageable to you.
Helping you take control of your recovery
We don’t want you to feel dependent on coming to clinic forever.
An important part of your treatment is helping you understand your own body and giving you strategies you can use yourself.
We’ll teach you what is appropriate for **you**, rather than simply handing you a generic sheet of pelvic-floor exercises.
You’ll have an individual home programme, and where appropriate we’ll teach you techniques for relaxation, movement, self-release and gradually returning to the activities that matter to you.

No.

We’ll listen to what’s happening, assess what is appropriate for you, begin treatment gently and discuss what we think may help.
After that, you can decide whether you’d like individual appointments or whether the additional support of Boudica Restore would be helpful.
There is no pressure to decide before you’ve met us.
